Biden and Makhon will announce Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire
The Israeli government and the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah are 'very close' to a ceasefire deal. An official announcement in this regard may come soon. And US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron can announce.
Four senior sources in Lebanon told Reuters on Monday. However, no source could give a specific timetable.
In Washington, White House national security spokesman John Kerby said, "We came very close." However, it cannot be said that anything has happened until everything is finalized. The French president's office said that significant progress has been made in the ceasefire talks between Israel and Hezbollah. Meanwhile, a senior official of the Israeli government in Jerusalem said that the Israeli Cabinet will meet on Tuesday to approve the draft of the ceasefire agreement.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office was contacted by Reuters for updates on the progress of a possible ceasefire. However, it has refused to make any kind of comment from there.Israel's ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, said that under any deal, Israel would retain the ability to continue attacks in southern Lebanon. Earlier, Lebanon objected to the wording of the draft agreement, which would give Israel such rights. US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said that the differences between the two sides (Israel and Hezbollah) on the draft of the ceasefire agreement have narrowed significantly. But they still need to take several steps to reach an agreement. On October 7 last year, the Israeli invasion of Gaza in Palestine began. Since then, Hezbollah has been involved in conflict with Israel with the support of Hamas and Palestine. The conflict, which had been going on for over a year, intensified in mid-September. Israel launched a ground operation in Lebanon and killed several top Hezbollah leaders. Hassan Nasrullah, one of the founders of Hezbollah and the head of the organization, was killed.
Hizbullah has taken into account the recent offer of a 60-day cease-fire agreement by the United States and Israel. It raises hopes of a long-term ceasefire agreement.
